    • The basic aim of the college of dentistry is health-oriented teaching that emphasizes the prevention of oral diseases. All students are inculcated with the enthusiasm for not just curing dental diseases but also their prevention. The college actively spreads this message in the surrounding community. An experienced faculty team is always accessible to the students.
      The dental college offers courses for the undergraduates B.D.S. (5 year program) as well as the postgraduate M.D.S. (3 year program in 6 different specialties).

      Outreach program

       

      Students find the regular camps we conduct in schools and rural areas a fulfilling experience. These camps form part of the community dentistry program. The camps spread awareness of the importance of dental health, and free toothpastes, gum paint and mouthwash are given to the needy.  
    • Prosthodontics

      The department deals with creation of lost or missing oral / dental structures and associated in the maxillofacial region using artificial substitutes to restore function and esthetics. The department also extends services by providing artificial substitutes for lost limbs and digits. The treatment provided includes the making of
    • Crowns and bridges
    • Complete and removable partial dentures
    • Implant supported restorations
    • Smile design
    • Management of temporomandibular joint problems
    • Traumatic injuries to the teeth / orofacial region
    • Congenital disorders like cleft lip and cleft palate
    • Snoring or sleep disorders
    • Oral cancer reconstruction and continuing care

    Academics

    The department educates protectoral students with a goal to achieve competency in management of patients arriving for diagnosis and planning the sequence of treatment in prosthodontics patients. Apart from educating the students, the department provides good clinical care for patients requiring comprehensive and advanced phases of prosthodontic treatment like occlusal rehabilitation, full mouth, rehabilitation, implant supported prosthesis and extraoral/intraoral maxillofacial prosthesis.

    Training Program

    The two years of undergraduate training preclinical includes basics of material science, various laboratory procedures required for patient management in the subsequent years. Students are trained with lectures supported with audiovisual aids, group discussions and demonstration projected on large screen. Clinical training starts from the third year on wards and is completed upon completion of the course. Hands on clinical experience is gained by the students by working on patients only guided by the staff of the department.

    Faculty

    The department is a rich blend of experience and youth. The members of faculty enthusiastic and energetic team qualified from various prosthodontic centers across India under the able leadership of Dr. V. Vidyashree Nandini .M.D.S., D.N.B.

    Clinics and Laboratories

    The department boasts of an expensive UG & PG Clinic with an separate implant section in the clinical block. In the pre clinical block, A large preclinical laboratory and a state of the art dental laboratory churns out about 100 units per month on an average is a pride of this department the laboratory is housing equipments from the best in business and includes metal/full ceramic/ metal fused to ceramic/metal castings/best of accryliser to name a few.

    Community Service

    The department offers services to geriatric patients by providing the complete denture free of cost.

    Supplementary Academic Activities

    In addition to the routine academic programs, students are encouraged to attend international/ national and state level conferences, symposium and workshops. Our students over the year have won various accolades and awards in scientific presentations including oral presentation and posters. The staff contribute in clinical research publishing articles in various journals and in handling various challenging clinical cases walking in to the hospital. 
  • Oral Diagnosis, Oral Medicine & Radiology

    Oral Medicine Diagnosis & Radiology is the first department where the patient is received; elaborate history is taken with thorough examination and investigations that aid in arriving at a diagnosis are done. Patients are medically managed with required alterations in medications and other medical advises are given. The patient is received in a well appointed and soothing reception. They are referred to the respective specialties for specific treatment for dental problems. This department is well equipped with 25 advanced dental chairs and Instruments. Sophisticated methods of sterilization are available to render quality care and eminent professionals take utmost care and concern for the well being of the patients.
    The Department of Radiology goes hand in hand with Oral Medicine providing facilities for all dental radiographic investigations to patient. Facilities for Orthopantamogram, Lateral Cephalographs, Intra Oral Periapical radiograph and Occlusal Radiograph are available for the patient. Technically well qualified Radiographers and Dark Room Assistant ensure that high quality radiographs are made with the least exposure possible.

    Oral Pathology

    It is a specialty of dentistry which includes dental anatomy, histology, embryology & pathology. Clinical dentistry is largely based on the foundation of study of Dental anatomy and histology. The department of Oral and Maxillofacial pathology was established in the year 2008. The department is spread over an area of about 6500 sq.ft with well designed chambers allotted for clinical examination, student's laboratory, and museum with numerous mounted specimens, models and posters. The department has a well equipped histopathology lab for tissue processing with all special stains to facilitate precise and accurate diagnosis for appropriate treatment plan.
    The undergraduate students are trained to acquire the skills in identification and carving of permanent teeth, age estimation using plaster casts of different age groups, study of teeth anomalies through specimens and plaster casts and microscopic identifications of oral tissues as well as common oral lesions. The department also encourages students to participate in national events.
    The team of teaching faculty is committed to a high level of excellence in publishing their academic work and interesting cases in national and international journals.
  • Periodontics

    Welcome to Department of Periodontics, SRM Kattankulathur Dental College & Hospital. Periodontics is that specialty of dentistry which encompasses the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases affecting the supporting and surrounding tissues of the teeth or their substitutes, such as dental implants. The speciality also concerns itself with the maintenance of health, function and esthetics of these structures and tissues. The Department provides didactic and clinical instructions in Periodontology at the undergraduate level. Our enormous patient strength makes our patient care and research programmes numerous and diverse. On an average 1000 patients in our outpatient clinic per month. Our experienced faculty guide the students in the treatment of periodontal disease, studies of new regenerative and implant techniques, ridge augmentation guided bone regeneration, sinus elevation, ridge expansion and management of peri - implantitis.
    The department is providing various services to the patients. It includes scaling and polishing of teeth, splinting of mobile teeth, demonstrating proper brushing techniques with models, surgical treatment for enlarged gingiva(gums), periodontal flap surgery for the treatment of Periodontal pocket, bone grafting, Guided Tissue Regeneration (GTR), root coverage procedures, frenectomy, ridge augmentation, placement of dental Implants.
    Department has adequately spacious UG clinic. It also has a separate seminar room, department library with vast array of books and electronic study resources with good infrastructure as prescribed by Dental Council of India, New Delhi.
    Department ensures strict aseptic measures for all treatment. The department has an autoclave for sterilization of instruments, gauze, cotton, suture needles. Students are using proper barrier methods to prevent cross infection. Infected and non infected waste are separately collected as per the procedure and sent for safe disposal.
